Massachusetts Hockey is pleased to announce the Mike Cheever "Grow Hockey" Development Grant. The purpose is to seek, fund, and share within Mass Hockey, innovative methods for growing ice hockey participation in our Town, Girls/Women and Disabled Hockey Programs. It is Mass Hockey's belief that many of our Town and Girls/Women leadership personnel may have excellent ideas for innovative ways to increase the number of players in their Programs, but the high cost of running games and practices leaves limited resources to implement these ideas.

Mike Cheever's impact on youth hockey was immense at the local and national levels. Mass Hockey has named this grant program after Mike, because it is aimed at achieving what Mike dedicated his life to: giving more kids the opportunity to play the game. We are grateful to the Cheever family for allowing us to use Mike's name for our grant program.

Programs are invited to submit their innovative ideas to grow hockey participation in their Program by completing and submitting the Mike Cheever "Grow Hockey" Development Grant Application.

Applications submitted will be reviewed and evaluated, and those that appear to be most likely to be successful may be funded with grants of up to $4000. Funds will be disbursed for use in the 2008-09 season.

Each Program whose idea is funded will be closely followed and evaluated throughout the 2008-09 season and beyond to measure both growth in player participation, and retention of new and existing participants. All Applications will be posted on our website in June 2008, to create an on-line resource of best practices for all Mass Hockey Programs to implement if they so desire.
