Rumble, 36, recently concluded his first season as an assistant
coach with the Falcons. The former defenseman retired as
a player in December 2004 after a 16-year professional career.
Rumble
was drafted in the first round (20th overall) of the NHL
Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1987. The native
of Barrie, Ontario won the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s
Best Defenseman for the 1996-97 season while playing for
the Philadelphia Phantoms. He was also named to the AHL
First All-Star Team and shared the AHL lead for goals among
defenseman with 18 that season. During the 1994-95 season,
Rumble led the AHL in plus/minus at +45 while with the P.E.I.
Senators and was named to the league’s Second All-Star
team. Rumble finished his playing career with 77 goals and
317 assists for 394 points in 614 career AHL contests. At
the time of his retirement, he ranked second in career scoring
among active AHL defensemen.
In
parts of eight NHL seasons, he appeared in 184 NHL games
with Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Ottawa and St. Louis.
