Mass Hockey Annual Meeting News & Notes

A few additional notes from the Mass Hockey meeting held June 17th & 18th in Nashua, New Hampshire.

  • In addition to the USA Hockey New Standard of Play and Rules Emphasis, the Mandatory use of of Helmets by Coaches on ice during practice, Mass Hockey has expanded the Pilot Rule eliminating a team from icing the puck when short handed, from last season in the Player Development Select League to be used in all games played under Mass Hockey (this does included the GSL).
    • Pilot: Teams playing shorthanded will not ice the puck. Intent; create opportunities to enhance the offensive skills of defensemen (versus just slapping the puck out of the zone with no regard to offensive opportunities and related skill and mental development of all players in shorthanded situations)
  • Jack McCathern is retiring from Mass Hockey and moving to New Mexico later this year. McCahtern was the President of Mass Hockey from 2004-06. Dan Esdale was elected President back at the April meeting.
